Virat Kohli criticized BCCI’s new rule limiting family presence on tours, saying people who don’t understand its importance are making decisions.
Virat Kohli has expressed disappointment over the BCCI’s new travel policy, which restricts family presence during overseas tours. Following India’s Test series loss to New Zealand at home and a poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, BCCI introduced strict travel rules. Players on tours exceeding 45 days can have their partners and children (under 18) visit only once per series for up to two weeks.
Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s <a href="http:// ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit in Bengaluru, Kohli criticized the rule. He feels families are being unfairly blamed for failures, despite having no role in on-field results.
“It’s very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to just come back to your family every time you have something which is intense, which happens on the outside,” he said. “I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings to a large extent. And I feel quite disappointed about that because it’s like people who have no control over what’s going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out at the forefront that, ‘oh, maybe they need to be kept away’,” the former skipper said.
“If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? You’ll be like, yes. I don’t want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility. You finish that responsibility, and you come back to life,” Kohli added.
Virat Kohli Reveals Why He Avoids Social Media
Along with his views on the BCCI policy, Kohli also addressed a burning question from fans—why he has stepped back from social media. He believes technology can be a distraction when not used with intent.
“Technology when not attached to a goal can be quite distracting. It is something I have experienced in my playing career. Luckily, I grew up in a time when you didn’t have this thing in your pocket (hinting at a smartphone). It is much easier to keep it on the side… I don’t engage and post a lot these days and people are not happy about that,” he said.

It is something that I have consciously tried to do. To keep up with that for me was way too much. It was taking away a lot of energy from me because I could utilise that in my game or life,” Kohli said, explaining why he chooses to stay off social media,” Kohli added.
The star batter will soon return to action for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025.
