Kapil Dev believes cricketers need both family support and team unity on tours, calling for a balanced approach to maintain personal well-being and professional focus.
Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev has shared his views on the ongoing debate about family presence during cricket tours, stressing the need for a balance between personal life and team commitments. He acknowledged the importance of family support but emphasized that players must also stay connected with their teammates. Reflecting on his playing days, he recalled how cricketers focused on matches early in a tour before families joined later.
“That is the cricket board’s call, but my opinion is that you need your family, and you also need the team with you all the time,” Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
“In our time, we used to say to ourselves not by the cricket board that in the first half, let us focus on cricket, and in the second half, families should join in and enjoy too. It should be a blend,” he added.
Earlier, Virat Kohli had also highlighted the role of family in maintaining mental well-being, explaining that spending time with loved ones helps players stay grounded amid intense competition. He expressed disappointment over the lack of understanding about its impact on a player’s performance.
