BCCI is reportedly considering allowing players to apply for extended family stays during overseas tours, following players’ concerns about the importance of family support in high-pressure situations.
The BCCI is reportedly considering easing restrictions on family stays during overseas tours. In January 2025, the board introduced a policy preventing players’ families from traveling for entire tours after India’s poor Test series against Australia. However, recent reports from ANI and India Today indicate that players may soon be allowed to apply for extended family stays with board approval.
“Players can apply for permission if they want their families to stay longer on tours. The BCCI will make a decision as it sees fit,” a top BCCI source was quoted as saying by India Today.
Notably, Virat Kohli had recently voiced his disappointment, emphasizing the emotional stability family provides during intense cricketing schedules. He stressed that players juggle multiple challenges, and returning to a supportive home environment brings much-needed normalcy.
“It is very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to just come back to your family every time you have something intense, which happens on the outside. I do not think people have an understanding of what value it brings to a large extent. And I feel quite disappointed about that because it is like people who have no control over what is going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out at the forefront, and ‘oh, maybe they need to be kept away,'” Kohli had said.

The board is expected to evaluate each request individually before making a final decision. Further updates on the policy are awaited.
