IPL 2025 | MI Falls Short Again in Opening Match as CSK Seals a 4-Wicket Win

Chennai Super Kings started their IPL 2025 campaign with a 4-wicket win, while Mumbai Indians’ opening match losing streak since 2012 continued despite putting up a strong fight.

Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl as Chennai Super Kings faced Mumbai Indians in the high-stakes season opener at Chepauk. MI struggled early, losing three wickets in the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma attempted to stabilize the innings, but Noor Ahmad struck, dismissing both batters. His four-wicket haul dismantled MI’s middle order, while MS Dhoni’s lightning-fast stumping sent Suryakumar back. MI found it tough to recover, limping to 155/9 in 20 overs. Deepak Chahar’s late 28-run cameo off 15 balls helped MI cross the 150 mark.

In response, Chennai Super Kings lost Rahul Tripathi early, but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra ensured the chase remained on track. Gaikwad attacked Mumbai Indians’ inconsistent bowling, while Ravindra played a steady role. Debutant Vignesh Puthur briefly revived MI’s hopes with three quick wickets in successive overs.

However, CSK kept the required run rate under control. Ravindra’s composed batting made the difference, as he avoided risky shots and built a crucial stand with Ravindra Jadeja. His unbeaten 65 anchored the chase, guiding CSK to a 4-wicket win in 19.1 overs.
