Mumbai Indians remained unsure about Jasprit Bumrah’s return for IPL 2025 after their defeat to CSK, despite positive updates from the NCA.
Mumbai Indians’ assistant coach Paras Mhambrey hinted that Jasprit Bumrah’s return could take longer than expected. Speaking after MI’s loss to Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2025 opener, Mhambrey shared that the franchise was pleased with the pacer’s progress but could not provide a definitive timeline for his comeback.
“He is doing well. I thought whatever information we got from the NCA, we are happy with his progress. But I won’t dwell into the time frame right now. I would leave it to the upper management team, who are coordinating with the NCA guys. They are pretty happy. Fingers crossed, so I definitely would want him. He is a big part of Mumbai Indians, a success for many years,” said Mhambrey.
“I would definitely want him in the team. We are happy with the progress and we will just see how it goes,” Mhambrey added.
Bumrah, who is recovering from a stress-related back injury, has been out of action since January. The injury, which occurred during the second day of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, forced him to miss the Champions Trophy. It is the first back injury Bumrah has faced since his surgery in March 2023.
MI Wants Jasprit Bumrah’s Return Soon
During the Champions Trophy squad announcement in January, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that the BCCI medical team had recommended at least five weeks of rest for Bumrah to ensure complete recovery.
Bumrah has been a key player for Mumbai Indians over the years, claiming 165 wickets in 133 IPL matches at an impressive average of 22.51 and an economy rate of 7.30. He remains MI’s second-highest wicket-taker, trailing only Lasith Malinga. Bumrah’s IPL career includes two five-wicket hauls and four four-wicket hauls, making him an invaluable asset to the franchise.
