Alyssa Healy Makes Stunning Revelation On IPL’s ‘Flat Wicket’ And ‘Batter-Friendly’ Approach

Alyssa Healy

Alyssa Healy recently expressed her views on how the Indian Premier League is becoming increasingly skewed towards batters, emphasizing that the league prioritizes entertainment through boundaries. Healy remarked that the introduction of the Impact Player rule, combined with aggressive batting strategies, has created a significant imbalance between bat and ball.

In the initial phase of IPL 2025, the trend of high-scoring games has already taken center stage. During the clash between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 25, SRH posted 282 runs, contributing to an aggregate of 528 runs — the highest in history. Jofra Archer also registered the most expensive spell in IPL history, conceding 76 runs in four overs.

Alyssa Healy Empathises Bowlers

Healy foresees a challenging season for bowlers due to the flat pitches and the emphasis on power-hitting. “I mean, when you play a competition and there’s a sponsor for the number of sixes that are hit in the competition, you know you’re in strife as a bowler. The wickets are going to be flat, that’s what they think people want to see… I feel for the bowlers out there, it’s going to be a tough old year,” Healy said during the ‘Willow Talk’ podcast via Yahoo Sports.

Her husband, Mitchell Starc, made his debut for Delhi Capitals on March 24, returning figures of 3-42 but conceding several boundaries during the powerplay, especially against Mitchell Marsh.

With high-scoring games becoming the norm, Healy questioned the rationale of being a bowler in the IPL. “I just don’t know why you’d want to be a bowler in the IPL. Honestly, what is the point? Especially if you bowl fast because there’s no room for error if you slightly miss, it’s going for six,” Healy remarked.

Alyssa Healy further pointed out that SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have leveraged their power-hitting prowess by preparing flat decks at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. “They’ve got to set it up that way in Hyderabad because of the power they’ve got in that squad and ability to hit teams out of fixtures. It’s pretty incredible but they’re going to play to their strengths and we’ll see how that goes for them around the country,” she said.
