Shardul Thakur’s 4-Wicket Haul, Pooran’s Power-Hitting Seal LSG’s Victory

LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opened their IPL 2025 campaign with a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Chasing 191, they dominated the first half of their innings, ensuring late setbacks did not affect the result. The defeat marked SRH’s first loss at home this season.

On a high-scoring surface, LSG needed quick runs in the Powerplay. Despite losing Aiden Markram early, they made a strong start. Nicholas Pooran led the charge with a quick 70 off 26 balls, while Mitchell Marsh(52) provided crucial support. The duo stitched a 116-run stand off 43 balls, keeping LSG ahead. Wickets fell later, but Abdul Samad(22*) and David Miller ensured a smooth finish.

Earlier, SRH posted 190/9 in 20 overs after being put into bat. Travis Head top-scored with 47 off 28 balls, but the innings lacked momentum. Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler for LSG, taking 4/34. He removed Abhishek Sharma (6), Ishan Kishan (0), Abhinav Manohar (2), and Mohammed Shami (1), restricting SRH’s total.

With this win, LSG not only opened their account but also gained a healthy net run rate boost.

This is the template LSG should follow, bowl first and back their stronger suit which is batting to chase down whatever opposition posts. Thanks to Thakur’s fourfer it was a sub 200 chase and Pooran and Marsh killed the game with that big partnership. #SRHvLSG #IPL2025

Jhukti hai duniya, bas jhukane wala chahiye!

Not disrespecting anyone, but it’s about mindset, planning and the hunger to rise, especially when the home team comes with a big reputation. Well done @RishabhPant17 and co. #SRHvLSG #TATAIPL #JioHotstar #ZaheerKhan 👍
