Delhi Capitals secured a convincing seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, moving to second place in the points table. SRH, after suffering consecutive defeats, slipped to seventh.
DC’s bowlers set the platform for the win, displaying depth and control. The Sunrisers aimed for a strong start but kept losing wickets. Aniket Verma’s 74 and Heinrich Klaasen’s 32 formed a 77-run counterattacking stand, but the batting unit struggled. Mitchell Starc ripped through the lineup with a maiden IPL five-wicket haul, taking the Purple Cap. Kuldeep Yadav added three wickets, restricting SRH to 164.
Chasing a tricky target on a slow surface, DC’s openers built a solid 81-run stand. Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel ensured a smooth chase despite a brief collapse. Jake Fraser-McGurk continued to struggle, but the Capitals reached the target of 164 with 24 balls remaining in the innings.
SRH’s bowling failed to create early breakthroughs, and fielding lapses made matters worse. Zeeshan Ansari’s three wickets and Harshal Patel’s economical spell were the only rare positives.
