Travis Head praised Virat Kohli’s personal transformation, crediting his fitness and mindset for his long-term success.

Australia’s star opener Travis Head has praised Virat Kohli’s personal transformation, crediting the Indian batter’s fitness and overall attitude for his success at the highest level. In a recent exclusive chat with News18 CricketNext, Head reflected on what sets the “Fab Four” apart and why their consistency over the years has been remarkable.

Kohli, along with Australia’s Steven Smith, England’s Joe Root, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, forms cricket’s celebrated “Fab-Four.” Despite different personalities and playing styles, Head believes they all share one vital trait — longevity.

“Yeah, longevity,” Head said when asked what he would take from the Fab-Four. “And then I think all of them have gone about it in different ways. I think Virat has changed a lot in his personal life—obviously his fitness and the way he’s gone about things, his intensity, the way he brings—and that’s how he’s got [success],” he added.

Head has shared the field with Kohli on multiple occasions, including in high-pressure encounters like the 2023 ODI World Cup final and the World Test Championship final in 2023, both of which Australia won. However, the respect he holds for Kohli’s approach remains firm.

When asked about his Australian teammate Steve Smith, Head pointed to Smith’s deep thinking and adaptability. “I guess I share a room with Steven, who is one of the great problem solvers that I’ve ever seen—the way he bats and is able to solve problems and do it on the go—and his work ethic around the way he plays and what he needs,” said Head.

Head is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 season. The 2016 champions have struggled so far, winning only one of their four matches, placing them at the bottom of the table. They are now preparing to face Gujarat Titans in their fifth match on Sunday, hoping to find some form heading into the middle phase of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli continues to represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB won their first two games but lost their third against the Titans. Their next match will be against Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.
