Virat Kohli opened up on his cricketing journey with Rohit Sharma, highlighting their mutual trust and shared leadership.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of Indian cricket’s biggest icons in the past 15 years, are set to face off once again in a blockbuster IPL clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7. As anticipation builds for the high-voltage encounter, Kohli shared heartfelt thoughts about his bond with Rohit, reflecting on their journey in international cricket.
In a video posted by RCB on their social media handle, Kohli was asked about his relationship with Rohit over the years. He spoke candidly, admitting that the duo has built a strong connection while playing for India.
“I think it’s a very natural thing to take place when you play with someone for so long and you share so much of your insight into the game initially, or learning from each other. You’re kind of growing in your careers at the same time, you share all kinds of queries, questions. So, there is a lot of back-and-forth that happens,” Kohli said.

Kohli and Rohit have both played key roles in India’s leadership group over the years. Kohli mentioned that they often aligned on cricketing decisions due to their deep understanding and trust.
“Also, the fact that we worked very closely in terms of leadership of the team. So, there were always ideas discussed, and more or less, we would end up being on the same page in terms of what the gut feel of that particular situation or that particular game demands. There is a trust factor that builds. You can rely on each other, do the job for the team,” he added.

Having started their careers around the same time, both Kohli and Rohit are now in the final phases of their illustrious cricketing journeys. Kohli expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share the field with Rohit for such a long time.
“We’ve definitely enjoyed our time playing together for so long for India. We were able to make our careers back long because when we were young, it wasn’t certain that we would end up playing for 15 years for India…the journey for so long and consistently. Very very grateful and very happy for all the memories, all the moments that we’ve shared and continue to do so,” Kohli concluded.
