Ishant Sharma Fined, Receives Demerit Point for Breaching the IPL Code of Conduct

Ishant Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee and given a demerit point for breaking the IPL code of conduct during Gujarat Titans’ win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s recent win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record following the incident on Sunday night.

The breach falls under Article 2.2 of the BCCI Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. The rule addresses improper use or abuse of cricket and ground equipment. Offences under this article include actions like intentionally or recklessly damaging fixtures, fittings, or boundary boards.

Ishant accepted responsibility for his actions, which involved conduct outside normal cricket play. He admitted to the Level 1 offence and agreed to the match referee’s sanctions. This is his first demerit point of the season.

“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the official media release read.

In the match, Gujarat Titans secured a dominant eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, chasing 153 in just 16.4 overs. However, Ishant Sharma had a poor outing, conceding 53 runs in four wicketless overs. In contrast, Mohammed Siraj took 4 for 17 and Prasidh Krishna claimed 2 for 25, helping restrict SRH to 152 for 8. Captain Shubman Gill led the chase with an unbeaten 61 off 43 balls on a tough surface at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. With this result, GT moved to second place in the points table, while SRH dropped to the bottom after four straight defeats.
