IPL 2025 | LSG Pulls Off Solid Defence Of 238 Against KKR To Win By 4 Runs At Eden Gardens

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 runs in a high-scoring thriller despite Rinku Singh’s late fireworks.

In a record-breaking IPL 2025 encounter at Eden Gardens, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinched a dramatic 4-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 21st match of the season on Sunday. Batting first after KKR won the toss and chose to bowl, LSG posted a mammoth 238/3, powered by explosive knocks from Mitchell Marsh (81 off 48) and Nicholas Pooran (87 off 36). In response, KKR gave a strong fight, but despite Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 38 off 15 balls, they fell just short at 234/7.

LSG’s innings was anchored by a blazing 114-run partnership between Marsh and Pooran. After Aiden Markram provided a strong start with 47 off 28, Marsh took over with six fours and five sixes in his innings. Pooran then launched a brutal assault in the death overs, smashing eight sixes and seven fours at a stunning strike rate of 241.67.

Despite Harshit Rana picking up two wickets, KKR’s bowling attack struggled, with none of the bowlers able to contain the onslaught. Andre Russell got one wicket but conceded 32 in just two overs. LSG ended with an imposing total of 238/3, their highest of the season. In response, KKR came out swinging, with Sunil Narine (30 off 13) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (61 off 35) laying a strong foundation. Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer (45 off 29) stitched a 71-run stand to keep the chase on track.

However, a flurry of wickets between the 13th and 16th overs derailed the momentum. From 162/2, KKR slumped to 185/7, losing five wickets in just 23 deliveries. With the match slipping away, Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana tried to pull off a miracle. Singh cracked six boundaries and two sixes in a valiant 38*, but their efforts weren’t enough as LSG held on to win by 4 runs.

KKR needs to avoid taking right-left theory too seriously. When chasing 239, you can’t play Rusell at No.7 and Rinku at No. 8. Way too late for your big hitters. #KKRvsLSG
