Glenn Maxwell was fined 25% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during PBKS’ win over CSK.

Punjab Kings allrounder Glenn Maxwell had another forgettable outing with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025, even as his team recorded a commanding 18-run win over Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday night.

Maxwell managed to score just 1 run off 2 balls before being dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin, who took a sharp return catch. Following his dismissal, Maxwell was fined 25 per cent of his match fee by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

In addition to the fine, one demerit point was also added to the Australian allrounder’s disciplinary record. “The Punjab Kings allrounder admitted to the Level 1 offence under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the BCCI said in a statement late Tuesday night.

Maxwell was found guilty under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to damage caused to any fixtures and fittings around the field or in the dressing room. “Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” reads the rule.

While Maxwell failed to deliver with the bat, he made an impact with the ball. The off-spinner took the crucial wicket of Rachin Ravindra, who was looking dangerous after hitting six fours in his 36 off 23 balls. Maxwell bowled a tidy spell of 2 overs for 11 runs, helping his team maintain pressure during CSK’s run chase.

Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a formidable 219/6, thanks to a record-breaking century from Priyansh Arya, who smashed 103 off 42 balls with seven fours and nine sixes. His explosive innings came despite a top-order collapse, where four PBKS batters were dismissed for single-digit scores.

The innings was further boosted by a quickfire 52 off 36* from Shashank Singh and a powerful 34 off 19* by Marco Jansen, who added the finishing touches. In response, Chennai Super Kings managed 201/5, falling short despite notable knocks from Devon Conway (69 off 49) and Shivam Dube (42 off 27).
