The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) put on a clinical all-round performance to cruise past Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 8 wickets in Match 25 of the IPL 2025 at Chepauk. Chasing a modest 104-run target, KKR reached 107/2 in just 10.1 overs, securing a dominant win and two crucial points.
Asked to bat first, CSK stumbled from the outset, managing only 103/9 in 20 overs. The innings never gained momentum, with the Kolkata bowlers maintaining a stranglehold throughout. Sunil Narine was the star with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for just 13 runs in his four overs. Varun Chakaravarthy (2/22) and Harshit Rana (2/16) also chipped in with key wickets. Moeen Ali was economical, conceding only 20 runs and picking up a wicket.
CSK’s only resistance came from Shivam Dube, who top-scored with an unbeaten 31 off 29 balls, and Vijay Shankar, who added 29 off 21. However, frequent wickets and lack of support from the other end restricted Chennai to their second-lowest total of the season. In reply, KKR came out all guns blazing. Sunil Narine, promoted up the order, smashed a blistering 44 off 18 deliveries, including five sixes, to flatten CSK’s hopes early in the innings.
Quinton de Kock contributed a quick 23 off 16 balls before falling to Anshul Kamboj, while Noor Ahmad got the prized scalp of Narine. But by then, the damage was done. Ajinkya Rahane (20)* and Rinku Singh (15)* calmly finished the chase in 10.1 overs, wrapping up a comprehensive win.
Sunil Narine’s all-round brilliance – a fiery spell with the ball and a game-changing knock at the top – proved to be the difference. His 44 off 18 not only killed the contest but also earned him the Player of the Match.
This emphatic win propels Kolkata up the points table and strengthens their net run rate. CSK, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly as their middle-order continues to misfire. KKR fans will be delighted with the team’s clinical approach, while CSK faces tough questions ahead of their next encounter.

Hypothetically saying if KKR bat full 20overs & take the lead, and ask CSK to chase. At this rate, CSK might end up with two losses in one night🙈 next rule for IPL ? #CSKvsKKR

Is this Dhoni’s last season? The way CSK’s season is going, is the time right for a change? Last question: Why give a slow pitch at home when the rivals have spinners like Naraine and Varun?

Something’s seriously not right with csk this season. #CSKvsKKR
