In a strategic move amid their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Karnataka’s rising star Smaran Ravichandran for INR 30 lakh as a replacement for Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who has been ruled out due to injury. The 24-year-old left-handed batter, renowned for his recent domestic exploits, steps into the squad to bolster SRH’s middle order, while Zampa’s absence leaves a void in the team’s spin department.
Smaran Ravichandran’s career has been defined by resilience and explosive performances. Despite initial setbacks in securing a spot in Karnataka’s senior team, his breakthrough came during the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where his match-winning 101 off 92 balls in the final against Vidarbha propelled Karnataka to victory.
This innings, laced with seven boundaries and three sixes, showcased his ability to thrive under pressure. Ravichandran further cemented his reputation in the Ranji Trophy with a monumental 203 off 270 balls against Punjab, a knock featuring 25 fours and three sixes.

Across formats, he has amassed over 1,100 runs in just seven First-Class, ten List A, and six T20 matches, including three centuries and a strike rate of 144.9 in T20s. His 104 in the Maharaja T20 Trophy* and 829 runs in the CK Nayudu Trophy underscore his versatility and consistency. These performances, combined with his recent form, make him a compelling addition to SRH’s batting lineup.
Adam Zampa’s injury marks a significant setback for SRH, who acquired the leg-spinner for INR 2.40 crore in the 2025 mega auction. Zampa, known for his historic 6/19 in the IPL and 21 wickets in 14 career IPL matches, was expected to spearhead SRH’s spin attack.
In another development, Ayush Mhatre, who was rumoured to join the CSK squad have also been officially appointed the replacement of Ruturaj Gaikwad. For the unaware, Mhatre has played 9 First-Class matches and 7 List A games and has scored close 962 runs from the same. The right-handed batter, who represents Mumbai in Domestic Cricket, joins CSK for INR 30 Lakh.
