Aakash Chopra criticised Rohit Sharma’s ongoing struggle in IPL 2025, saying the MI veteran hasn’t lived up to expectations despite showing intent against SRH.

Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has voiced concerns over Rohit Sharma’s inconsistent form in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, saying it’s high time the Mumbai Indians stalwart delivers a significant knock.

Rohit, who is the highest run-getter in IPL history, has managed just 56 runs from five innings this season, averaging 11.20. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he showed promise with a quickfire 26 off 16 balls, hitting three sixes, but failed to build on the strong start.

“In Mumbai’s batting, there was a question again. Mumbai cha raja, kab bajayega baaja? That is a big question, but it’s not happening. He got a six off the edge, and then he hit two excellent sixes. It seemed like things were going fine, and then he got out to a full toss. Rohit Sharma hasn’t batted the way you expect him to,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra pointed out that Rohit’s soft dismissal against a full toss from Pat Cummins was uncharacteristic of a player of his calibre. He added that MI’s top order continues to look unsettled, with Ryan Rickelton performing well but lacking consistent support from the other end.

Despite Rohit’s lean patch, MI secured a four-wicket win over SRH, largely due to Will Jacks’ all-round display. Jacks picked up two wickets and scored a vital 36, helping MI chase down the 162-run target in 18.1 overs.

With three wins from seven games, Mumbai Indians are still in the playoff race, but the pressure continues to mount on Rohit to deliver the kind of innings that once made him one of the most feared batters in the tournament.
