Shubman Gill was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
The fine, imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, marked Gujarat Titans’ first such violation this season. Gill, who was dismissed for just seven runs in the match, joined a growing list of IPL 2025 captains penalised for similar offenses, including DC’s Axar Patel, MI’s Hardik Pandya, RR’s Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson, and LSG’s Rishabh Pant.
Despite the penalty, Gujarat Titans went on to secure a memorable victory, chasing down a steep target of 204 with four balls to spare in testing heat conditions in Ahmedabad. The win was especially significant as it marked GT’s first-ever successful chase of a 200-plus total in IPL history, and the first such chase recorded against Delhi Capitals.

Jos Buttler starred in the run chase, remaining unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls. He stitched two crucial partnerships — 60 runs with B. Sai Sudharsan and 119 runs with Sherfane Rutherford — to guide GT to victory.
The bowling unit also played its part, with Prasidh Krishna returning figures of 4/41. Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Ishant Sharma, and R. Sai Kishore chipped in with a wicket each.
With this win, the IPL 2022 champions moved to the top of the 2025 points table with 10 points from seven games, ahead of Delhi Capitals only on net run rate. Gujarat Titans will now face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday — a game that will see Gill return to his former IPL team’s home ground.
