KL Rahul scored an unbeaten half-century against LSG to help Delhi Capitals register a comfortable eight-wicket victory.
KL Rahul made a strong statement with the bat as he led Delhi Capitals to a convincing eight-wicket win over his former franchise, Lucknow Super Giants, in an IPL 2025 match held on Tuesday. Returning to Lucknow for the first time since his exit from the team last year, Rahul remained unbeaten on 57 off 42 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, as DC chased down the target with ease.
The match carried added emotion as LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was present in the stands. Last season, Rahul had a much-talked-about fallout with Goenka when LSG endured a poor run, finishing seventh and missing out on a playoff spot for the first time.
Rahul, who captained LSG for three seasons and led them to the playoffs twice, was released ahead of the IPL 2024 mega auction. He sealed the win with a six over the mid-wicket region and avoided a prolonged post-match handshake with Goenka.

Later, he took to social media and posted, “Always good to be back in Lucknow,” alongside pictures from the game, including one of him pointing to his name on the back of his DC jersey.

Speaking last November about his decision to leave LSG, Rahul had hinted at a tense dressing room environment. “I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom, where the team atmosphere could be something lighter. Sometimes you need to move away and find something good for yourself,” he said on Star Sports.
On the other hand, Goenka had addressed the franchise’s decision to release certain players. “It was a simple mindset to go in with players who have a mindset to win, who put the team before their personal goals and personal aspirations and we wanted to retain as much as of the core we could,” he had stated.
