Ajinkya Rahane injured his hand while fielding against Delhi Capitals, forcing him off the field as Sunil Narine took over KKR’s captaincy.
Ajinkya Rahane sustained a hand injury while fielding during Kolkata Knight Riders’ win over Delhi Capitals. The incident occurred at short cover when a powerful shot from Faf du Plessis struck his hand, forcing Rahane to leave the field for treatment. With his hand strapped, he did not return for the remainder of the match. Sunil Narine stepped in as captain for the final nine overs.
Spinner Anukul Roy confirmed the injury required stitches but suggested the issue isn’t serious. Rahane may need a couple of days to recover. His availability for upcoming matches will depend on further evaluation by team doctors.
“It doesn’t look too serious. He may need a couple of days to recover. The doctors will assess and provide more clarity, but for now, he’s doing fine. He got a few stitches,” said Anukul.
Narine, Anukul Star as KKR Defend 205 Against Delhi Capitals
In the match, Kolkata Knight Riders successfully defended a target of 205, thanks to key bowling spells from Anukul Roy and Sunil Narine. Rahane’s decision to hand the new ball to Anukul, playing his first match this season, paid off as the spinner removed Abishek Porel for 4 in the opening over.
Delhi Capitals looked in control during the chase, but Narine’s impact in the 14th over turned the contest. He dismissed Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs in the space of three balls, derailing Delhi’s momentum. Narine, who had conceded 25 runs in his first 2.1 overs, bounced back strongly to finish with 3/29 and won Player of the Match.
His effort alongside Varun Chakaravarthy helped KKR dominate the crucial middle phase. With this win, Kolkata strengthened their playoff position, while Delhi was left to rue a strong start that slipped away under pressure.
