In a pulsating clash that had everything from big knocks to nail-biting finishes, the Delhi Capitals (DC) held their nerve to edge past the Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over, thanks to Mitchell Starc’s death-over brilliance and a clinical chase by KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs.

Chasing 189 for victory, Rajasthan Royals looked set for a win with just 9 runs needed in the final over. But veteran pacer Mitchell Starc produced a masterclass in death bowling, firing in yorkers at will and giving away just eight runs while also being involved in a crucial run-out on the last ball that tied the game. His last over read, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1W – a spellbinding effort that sent the match into only the 15th Super Over in IPL history.

In the Super Over, the Royals managed just 11 runs despite a boundary from Shimron Hetmyer. Both Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal were run out in a chaotic finish, with Starc again playing a key role in the field.

Delhi needed 12 to win, and their reply was swift and decisive. KL Rahul smashed a four on the first ball, followed by a six from Stubbs on the next delivery. The duo wrapped up the chase in just four balls, sealing a dramatic victory for the Capitals and capping off one of the most memorable finishes of the season.

Earlier in the match, Delhi posted 188/6 with impactful cameos from Axar Patel (34 off 14) and Stubbs (34* off 18), while Rajasthan’s reply was anchored by half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) and Nitish Rana (51), but ultimately fell just short – until the Super Over heartbreak. With this win, Delhi not only adds two crucial points to their tally but also boosts morale, with Starc’s death-over heroics hailed across the cricketing world as one of the finest final over displays in IPL history.

What a game. High class last over from Starc.

Great skill under pressure from Starc to defend 9 in the final over and take the game to the super over. Jurel should have gone for the second run on the penultimate ball though. #DCvRR #IPL2025

It was RR’s game after the power play. It was RR’s game when 9 required to win in the last over with one set batter n other one a powerful hitter.

Such terrible decisions by RR , first off super over combination was wrong, you have A player who was dangerous against starc and you sent two batters who were struggling, it was literally a walk over for Dc ! Anyhow one thing is certain CATCHES WIN MATCHES! #DCvsRR
