Ishan Kishan said that scoring 300 runs in a T20 innings can’t be planned ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s clash with Mumbai Indians.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 17. Ahead of the high-stakes encounter, SRH’s top-order batter Ishan Kishan shared his thoughts on the possibility of scoring 300 runs in a T20 innings.
The left-handed batter said that such a massive total is not something teams can plan for from the start. Instead, it depends on how the powerplay unfolds and the nature of the pitch.
“When you’re chasing, you have a target in mind. But when you’re batting first, you just play the ball. And then you decide where you can go after the first six overs and how good you are on that wicket. So I don’t want to be very particular with the score. But let’s see. If we get a good start, then why not?” Kishan told JioHotstar when asked if a 300-plus total is possible in an innings.
Kishan also spoke about his flexibility in the batting order, saying there is not much difference between batting at No. 3 or No. 4. He explained that when a batter comes in during the powerplay, it is all about managing the pacers. Once the field spreads out, the focus shifts to rotating strike and building a partnership.

“Whether you’re batting at number 3 or 4, the situation is more or less the same. You just need to assess the wickets that have fallen and decide how you want to approach the game. The clarity given by the coaches makes it easier – you know your role. If you start early, you face pace bowlers and, after batting through the powerplay, you’re well set to dominate the middle overs. But if you walk in around the seventh over, it’s more about building a partnership and rotating strike. It’s slightly different, but I’m used to it,” Kishan explained.
Kishan, who made a strong start to IPL 2025 with a century against Rajasthan Royals, has not lived up to expectations in recent matches. As he prepares to face his former team at Wankhede, he reflected emotionally on switching from MI to SRH. “I got those goosebumps suddenly looking at everything Orange,” he had said earlier about his move to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
