Kamindu Mendis pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Dewald Brevis during CSK vs SRH in Chennai.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 had been missing a clear “catch of the tournament” moment — until Kamindu Mendis produced a spectacular effort for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Mendis delivered a jaw-dropping catch to send back Dewald Brevis at a critical point in the match, stopping a dangerous knock in its tracks and giving SRH the edge in the contest.

CSK, after being asked to bat first, suffered a collapse early in their innings. Debutant Dewald Brevis then stepped up, taking charge with a flurry of boundaries to bring CSK back into the game. Just when he looked set to turn the match around, Harshal Patel bowled a slower-length delivery. Brevis swung hard but failed to get the required elevation. Fielding at long-off, Mendis leapt high to his left and flew through the air like Superman to complete what many are calling the best catch of IPL 2025 so far. Watch the clip below:

“Only a catch like that could’ve stopped that cameo from Brevis! 🤯 Kamindu Mendis, take a bow 🙇,” the official IPL handle posted on X (formerly Twitter) as CSK stood at 119/6 after 14 overs.
The ball was travelling rapidly, but Mendis judged it to perfection. Even SRH skipper Pat Cummins appeared stunned by the acrobatic effort. Why did the catch matter so much? Because Brevis was in full flow and seemed poised for a potential half-century on debut. Had he stayed longer at the crease, CSK could have posted a much bigger total. However, once Mendis took that blinder, Chennai lost momentum.

Following Brevis’ dismissal, neither Deepak Hooda nor MS Dhoni managed to score quickly, allowing Sunrisers to claw back into the match. At the end of 16 overs, CSK were struggling at 130/6, still fighting to post a competitive total on the board.
