Mike Hesson is expected to become the new head coach of the Pakistan men’s team after the PSL 2025 ends.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially begun its search for a full-time head coach for the men’s senior team. A formal job posting went live on the PCB website on Saturday. Interim coach Aqib Javed, whose tenure ended in February 2025, has opted not to renew his role. The board is now seeking a Level-III certified coach with at least 10 years of experience at the domestic or international level.
According to a report by Daily Ausaf, Mike Hesson is set to take charge once the PSL 2025 season concludes. Hesson is currently associated with Islamabad United. He will replace Javed, who stepped in temporarily following Gary Kirsten’s resignation. Javed was initially expected to continue until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but received a short extension for the limited-overs series against New Zealand.

Notably, the former New Zealand coach is currently guiding Islamabad United, who are unbeaten in PSL 2025 with four wins in four matches. He also led them to the title in his debut PSL season last year. Hesson previously served as director of cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore and has prior international experience with New Zealand. His track record of success across leagues strengthens his case.
While Saqlain Mushtaq is also reportedly in contention, Hesson’s recent achievements with Islamabad United make him the frontrunner for the role ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming international assignments.
