Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has lavished praise on India’s cricketing talent pool, asserting that they are uniquely positioned to field three competitive teams across different formats simultaneously.
In a recent appearance on the YouTube show ‘FanaticsTV,’ Starc highlighted India’s unparalleled squad depth, suggesting that no other nation can match their ability to assemble multiple strong teams.
“I think they (India) are probably the only nation that can have a Test team, a one-day team, and a T20 team play on the same day against Australia in the Test, England in the one-dayer, and South Africa in the T20I; and India will be competitive,” Starc noted.
Starc, who is set to represent Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, also discussed the role of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in shaping India’s success in white-ball cricket.
Mitchell Starc Acknowledges IPL’s Influence
While acknowledging the IPL as a premier tournament that attracts international talent, Starc emphasized that its impact should not be overstated. He pointed out that while Indian players are limited to playing in the IPL, cricketers from other countries gain exposure by participating in multiple franchise leagues worldwide.
Starc concluded by acknowledging the IPL’s contribution to Indian cricket but stressed that the country’s immense talent pool is the primary factor behind their success.

“Obviously, it’s the number one product, has got all the Indians playing, and so much influx of international talent. It’s at the top. There’s no doubt that it’s a huge tournament… But I don’t think you can just sit on that because you have guys (players around the world) that play 5-6 different franchise leagues a year, so they are still getting the exposure to world cricket,” Starc said.
This recognition from Starc underscores India’s current dominance in international cricket, driven by a robust talent development system and the competitive environment fostered by the IPL.
