Chennai Super Kings fell short in a 220-run chase despite Devon Conway’s steady knock, as Punjab Kings sealed an 18-run win in Match 22 of IPL 2025.
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first at Chepauk, but it was Punjab Kings who made the most of the batting-friendly surface, posting a massive 219/6 in their 20 overs before restricting the hosts to 201/5, clinching an 18-run victory in the 22nd match of IPL 2025.
The foundation of Punjab’s big total was laid by Priyansh Arya, who smashed a stunning 103 off just 42 balls, laced with 7 fours and 9 sixes. His aggressive approach in the powerplay and middle overs kept CSK on the back foot, even though wickets fell regularly at the other end.
CSK bowlers had a tough outing, with only Ravindra Jadeja (3-0-18-0) maintaining some control. Ravichandran Ashwin (4-0-48-2) and Khaleel Ahmed (4-0-45-2) were among the wickets but proved expensive. Noor Ahmad, though economical early, ended with figures of 3-0-32-1. After Arya’s dismissal at 154/6 in 13.4 overs, Shashank Singh (52 off 36)* and Marco Jansen (34 off 19)* combined for an unbeaten 65-run stand, giving Punjab the final push past 215.

In reply, Chennai Super Kings began strongly with Rachin Ravindra (36 off 23) and Devon Conway, who held one end with a composed 69 off 49. The opening partnership yielded 61 runs, but CSK lost quick wickets in the middle overs, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (1 off 3) and Shivam Dube (42 off 27), both dismissed by Lockie Ferguson, who finished with 2/40 in his four overs.
Despite a late surge by MS Dhoni (27 off 12), who kept the home crowd alive with three sixes, CSK couldn’t maintain the asking rate and ended their innings at 201/5. Dhoni fell in the 19th over, leaving too much for the lower order to chase. Punjab’s bowling unit held their nerves under pressure, with Glenn Maxwell (2-0-11-1) and Yash Thakur (4-0-39-1) contributing crucial breakthroughs. Maxwell’s dismissal of Ravindra in the powerplay was a turning point.
Punjab Kings are the REAL Kings this IPL. Chennai simply can’t chase…today, they become the first team this year to lose the game after not losing a single wicket in the Powerplay overs. #PBKSvCSK
