Social Media Pressure Forces R Ashwin to Stop CSK YouTube Content

R Ashwin’s YouTube channel halted previews and reviews of CSK matches after criticism on social media over guest remarks.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) matches will no longer be previewed or reviewed on R Ashwin’s YouTube channel for the remainder of IPL 2025, following strong reactions on social media. The decision comes after criticism from fans about remarks made by a regular guest on the channel.

As per a report by ESPNcricinfo, the controversy began last week when Prasanna Agoram, a former data analyst for South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and a frequent guest on Ashwin’s channel, openly questioned CSK’s decision to pick Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad. Agoram argued that the team would have been in a better position had they selected an extra batsman instead of adding a third spinner, despite having both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad.

The remarks sparked backlash online, especially after CSK suffered their third straight defeat in the tournament, including a rare home loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru—their first at Chepauk since 2008—and another to Delhi Capitals, which was their first home defeat to the Delhi side since 2010.

Following the backlash, the video was taken down from the platform. Noor Ahmad currently leads the Purple Cap standings with ten wickets from four innings, while Ashwin and Jadeja together have managed just four wickets from eight innings.

The admin of Ashwin’s YouTube channel addressed the issue and confirmed their decision to stop covering CSK games for the rest of the season. “Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season. We value the diversity of perspectives that come through on our shows and remain committed to ensuring the conversation stays true to the integrity and purpose of the platform we’ve established. The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin’s personal opinions,” said the admin, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Chennai Super Kings are currently ninth on the IPL 2025 points table, with just two points from four matches. Their most recent loss came at home against Delhi Capitals, who have climbed to the top of the standings with three consecutive victories.
