Rahul Dravid Praises Vaibhav Suryavanshi; Explains Rajasthan’s Role In Shaping The Youngster

Rahul Dravid praised young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his fearless IPL knock and credited Yashasvi Jaiswal for guiding him.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken the cricket world by storm after smashing a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans (GT) earlier this week. The 14-year-old’s blazing ton was not only the fastest by an Indian in IPL history but also the second-fastest overall.

RR head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on Suryavanshi for showing remarkable calmness and aggression under pressure at such a young age. Speaking at the Star Sports Press Room, Dravid said they were focused on helping the young left-hander enjoy his game and learn from the experience.

“For me, it’s really his fearlessness and the way he doesn’t get fazed by the occasion or the pressure around him, that’s something truly special. You don’t usually see that in someone so young. He also has a remarkable range of shots. He’ll need to keep working hard, developing his game, and improving. Teams will get smarter against him, and he’ll face ups and downs—that’s the nature of T20 cricket. From our side, we’re just encouraging him to play the way he enjoys—take the game on and express himself. Of course, he’ll make mistakes and learn from them, but for now, we just want him to have fun and soak in the experience,” Dravid said.

Dravid also credited Yashasvi Jaiswal for supporting Suryavanshi on and off the field. Jaiswal has played a key role at the top of the order for Rajasthan this season and has taken on more responsibility.

“Yashasvi has been incredibly consistent this season. Even at 22-23 years, he’s taking on a bit of a senior role, especially when playing alongside someone like Vaibhav. It’s great for his development too—to look back at how others supported him in his early years and now pay that forward by guiding younger players,” Dravid added.

Rajasthan Royals snapped their five-match losing streak by defeating Gujarat Titans. They will now aim to halt Mumbai Indians’ five-match winning run when the two teams clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, May 1.
