Rob Walter has stepped down as the head coach of South Africa’s men’s white-ball team, citing personal reasons. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed his resignation in an X post on Tuesday, stating that his tenure will officially end on April 30, 2025.
“Cricket South Africa (CSA) wishes to announce the resignation of the Proteas Men’s white-ball head coach, Rob Walter, effective 30 April 2025. Walter has attributed his resignation to personal reasons, which CSA has accepted,” CSA said in the statement.
Rob Walter, who took over in March 2023, played a key role in South Africa’s success on the international stage. Under his leadership, the Proteas created history by reaching their first-ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in 2024, finishing as runners-up to India in Barbados after a record eight-match winning streak.
His tenure also saw the 50-over squad advance to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. During his time as head coach, Walter guided the team through 36 One-Day Internationals and 31 T20 Internationals, securing series victories against teams like the Netherlands, Australia, Ireland, and Pakistan.

Before becoming head coach, Walter worked as the Proteas’ strength, conditioning, and fielding coach from 2009 to 2013. He also served as an assistant coach in the IPL for the Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils.
