Rohit Sharma acknowledged that his 17-18 year-long career has been filled with highs and lows, with the past nine months being no exception.
Rohit Sharma’s illustrious career has seen its fair share of ups and downs. From missing out on India’s 2011 World Cup squad to leading the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup as captain, his journey has been nothing short of eventful.
The last nine months alone have been a rollercoaster ride for the Indian skipper. His IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, finished last in the IPL 2024 points table. However, Rohit bounced back by guiding India to the T20 World Cup triumph, only to witness consecutive Test series defeats that denied India a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time in three attempts. India’s fortunes turned again when they clinched the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this month.
Reflecting on his journey, Rohit emphasized the importance of staying positive, regardless of the results. “My career for 17-18 years has always been up and down, which has taught me so many things in my life. And these nine months were no different,” Rohit said in a video shared by Mumbai Indians.
Rohit stressed that maintaining a positive attitude is key, whether in victory or defeat. “Whether we lose, whether we win, we have to smile, we have to smile,” he said.
“It’s a very simple line, but it means a lot. Whatever happens, you just at the end of the day, you have to try and find a way to smile and be happy and find peace with it. That’s why whenever we talk in a group, as players, as a team, we always talk about that. Let’s try and find a way to move on, whether we win or whether we lose,” he added.

Rohit acknowledged that overcoming failures is not easy but stressed the importance of staying motivated and looking ahead. “And to move on from a loss, from a low, is not that easy. That’s why at that time, how you can get excited, you can smile on your face, that is important. Because life doesn’t end here. If you are low, the sun will rise again the next day. You will have to wake up tomorrow again and find a way to fight that day. So, all this is there. So, if you can somehow forget that moment and move forward with a smile, then nothing like it,” Rohit said.
As Rohit Sharma continues to lead from the front, his words serve as a reminder that success and failure are part of the journey, and staying positive is the key to moving forward.
