Sanju Samson will miss Rajasthan Royals’ match against RCB as he continues to recover from an abdominal injury in Jaipur.

Rajasthan Royals will miss captain Sanju Samson once again as they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Thursday’s away match. Samson, who suffered an abdominal injury during the Super Over loss to Delhi Capitals, continues to recover in Jaipur. This will be his second straight absence in IPL 2025.

The franchise has confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batter will remain at the home base under the supervision of medical staff. Team management is tracking his recovery closely and will decide on his availability on a match-by-match basis.

“Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base (Jaipur) with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB. The team management is monitoring his progress closely and will take a game-by-game approach regarding his return to action,” the franchise said in a statement.

Riyan Parag will continue to lead Rajasthan Royals in the absence of Sanju Samson. Parag had previously stepped in as captain earlier in IPL 2025 when Samson was recovering from a finger injury picked up during the England T20I series.

Samson began the season strongly with a 66-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad and continued to deliver useful starts. In his most recent outing against Delhi Capitals, he retired hurt on 31 off 19 balls and did not return for the Super Over. With Samson ruled out again, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is expected to retain his spot at the top. The young opener had impressed on debut with a quickfire 34, and will likely pair with Yashasvi Jaiswal as RR take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
