Sanju Samson has received BCCI clearance to resume wicket-keeping and will also reclaim the Rajasthan Royals captaincy for the rest of the IPL season.

Sanju Samson has received full clearance from the BCCI’s Center of Excellence, allowing him to resume wicket-keeping duties in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. With this approval, he will also reclaim the Rajasthan Royals captaincy for the rest of the tournament.

Sanju had traveled to Bengaluru for assessment by the BCCI’s Sports Science wing before getting the go-ahead. He was initially restricted to batting due to a recent surgery on his right index finger. As a result, Rajasthan Royals used him solely as a batter and Impact Player in the first three matches, temporarily handing captaincy to Riyan Parag. Dhruv Jurel took over wicket-keeping duties during this period. Now fully fit, Sanju is set to return behind the stumps and lead Rajasthan for the remaining games.

“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to resume wicketkeeping duties following a period of recovery,” Rajasthan Royals wrote in a release.

“The clearance comes after a thorough assessment of his fitness by the NCA medical team. With this positive development, Samson will return to his full leadership role and resume captaincy from the team’s next match against the Punjab Kings,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals sit second last in the IPL 2025 points table, with one win from three matches. The 2008 champions will next face Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 5th.
