LSG signed Shardul Thakur as a replacement for the injured Mohsin Khan ahead of IPL 2025.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Shardul Thakur as a replacement for left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury.

Thakur, an experienced all-rounder, was signed from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his base price of INR 2 crore. A reliable performer across all three formats for India, he brings valuable IPL experience, having played 95 matches for five franchises.

LSG will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Monday, March 24, in Visakhapatnam. The 33-year-old all-rounder has already joined the LSG squad and is currently training with the team in Visakhapatnam.

“Thakur, an experienced all-rounder, has been signed from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his reserve price of INR 2 crore. A proven performer across all three formats for India, he brings valuable IPL experience, having played 95 matches for five franchises,” read the official report as stated by iplt20.com.

Shardul Thakur impressed with his performances in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, scoring 505 runs and taking 35 wickets in nine matches after recovering from foot surgery. The report also mentioned that Thakur had signed with Essex to play county cricket but had informed them about his availability in case any IPL franchise required a replacement.

The report stated, “Thakur had already alerted Essex that he would take up the offer if any IPL franchise needed a replacement player.” Mohsin Khan sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his right knee during the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the end of December. Despite joining the LSG camp, he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The report confirmed, “He is currently doing rehab and will work with the LSG support staff to chalk out his route back.” With Thakur’s inclusion, LSG aims to strengthen their squad and maintain balance in both batting and bowling departments as they look forward to a promising IPL 2025 campaign.
