Rashid Khan praised Shubman Gill’s captaincy and composure after Gujarat Titans beat KKR in IPL 2025.

Gujarat Titans’ star spinner Rashid Khan has praised captain Shubman Gill for his impressive leadership and smart decision-making in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Gill, who scored a fluent 90 off 55 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), missed out on a century by just 10 runs but played a major role in GT’s 39-run win.

Despite a slow start in the powerplay, Gill accelerated in the later stages of the innings, smashing 10 boundaries and three sixes to guide Gujarat to 198 in the first innings. With this victory, the Titans now sit on top of the IPL 2025 points table with six wins in eight games, moving closer to a playoff berth.

Speaking on JioHotstar, Rashid Khan highlighted the qualities that make Gill a standout leader. “Shubman has a very bright future as a leader, not just as a batter but in the way he thinks and understands the game. He comes with a plan. He’s very calm, and when you see him on the ground—the way he manages the team, the bowlers, and the overall environment—I think he has all the qualities to be a great leader. He’s captaining in such a big league, and I think the pressure here is even more than the World Cup. This is the best opportunity for him as a captain to perform under pressure and take bold decisions,” said Rashid.

The Afghan spinner also opened up about his journey with the Gujarat Titans, a franchise he joined in 2022. Rashid, who played a key role in GT’s title-winning season that year, credited the team’s family-like atmosphere for his consistent performances.

“Since I joined this team, the coaching staff and players welcomed me so well. I never felt like I had played for another team for five years before. That’s when the family atmosphere formed, and I started enjoying the game a lot more. My performance improved, and I got more opportunities—even with the bat. It’s very important that when you’re in a team, you get some responsibility and there’s open discussion,” added Rashid.
