Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a crucial five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 43 of IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Friday. Chasing 155, SRH crossed the line with eight balls to spare, thanks to vital contributions from Ishan Kishan, Kamindu Mendis, and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Opting to field first, SRH bowlers put up a disciplined performance to restrict CSK to 154 in 19.5 overs. Dewald Brevis, making his debut for CSK, impressed with a powerful 42 off 25 deliveries, including four sixes. Ayush Mhatre chipped in with a brisk 30 off 19, while Ravindra Jadeja added 21 off 17 in the middle order. However, CSK suffered a collapse in the final overs, losing their last six wickets for just 40 runs. Harshal Patel was the standout bowler, returning figures of 4/28, while Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat claimed two wickets each. Kamindu Mendis picked up the important wicket of Jadeja and took a spectacular catch to dismiss Brevis, which shifted momentum in SRH’s favour.

In reply, SRH’s chase got off to a rocky start with Abhishek Sharma dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Khaleel Ahmed. Travis Head (19) and Ishan Kishan steadied the innings with a 37-run partnership. Kishan went on to score a valuable 44 off 34 balls, hitting five fours and a six. Noor Ahmad broke through with two quick wickets, removing Kishan and Aniket Verma in the middle overs to keep CSK in the hunt.
At 106/5, the match was evenly poised before Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy joined forces. The duo added an unbeaten 49-run partnership in just 31 balls, displaying calm nerves and smart shot selection. Mendis, named Player of the Match, remained not out on 32 off 22 balls, while Reddy finished unbeaten on 19 off 13.
CSK’s bowlers lacked the sting in the death overs, allowing SRH to finish the match with ease. Ravindra Jadeja was economical with 1/22 in 3.4 overs, while Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad picked one and two wickets respectively. However, the absence of penetration in the final overs cost CSK dearly.
