On April 22 (Tuesday), terrorists carried out a deadly attack in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in Anantnag district. At least 28 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives, and over 20 others were injured in what is being seen as the worst civilian attack in the region since the Pulwama bombing in 2019.

Victims of the tragedy belonged to several Indian states including Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat, Haryana, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Two foreign nationals, one each from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, were also reported among the deceased.
