Dewald Brevis Called In As Replacement For Gurjapneet Singh In CSK Camp

Dewald Brevis

Chennai Super Kings signed South African talent Dewald Brevis as Gurjapneet Singh’s replacement for the remainder of IPL 2025, shelling out INR 2.2 crore for the young batter.

Chennai Super Kings have added South African youngster Dewald Brevis to their squad for the rest of IPL 2025, replacing pacer Gurjapneet Singh. The 21-year-old was signed for INR 2.2 crore, even though his base price at last year’s auction was INR 75 lakh.

Brevis, often dubbed ‘Baby AB’ for his resemblance to AB de Villiers, is seen as a major acquisition for CSK, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with just two wins midway through the season. This is the second replacement CSK have made this season, having already brought in Ayush Mhatre to cover for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Despite limited international appearances, Brevis is already an established name in T20 leagues. He has previously played for Mumbai Indians in 10 IPL matches and continues to represent them in both Major League Cricket and SA20.

So far, Brevis has featured in 81 T20 matches with an impressive strike rate nearing 145. His recent form has been exceptional, especially in the SA20 where he ended among the top 10 run-scorers and had the highest strike rate of 184.17.

With CSK struggling to find form this season, Brevis is expected to inject much-needed firepower into the batting line-up. The Super Kings face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on April 20 in their next fixture.
