Gujarat Titans Break Through with 36-Run Win, MI’s Woes Continue

Gujarat Titans secured their first IPL 2025 points with a dominant 36-run win over Mumbai Indians, continuing MI’s trend of slow starts. Hardik Pandya, returning as MI captain, won the toss and opted to bowl first.

For GT, Sai Sudharsan led the charge with 63 off 41 balls, guiding Gujarat to 196/8 in 20 overs. He struck four fours and two sixes before Trent Boult dismissed him in the 18th over. Shubman Gill added 38 off 27, while Jos Buttler contributed 39 off 24. Hardik Pandya took two wickets for MI.

In response, Mumbai’s chase faltered early as Mohammed Siraj removed Rohit Sharma for 8 in the first over and Ryan Rickelton for 6 in the fifth. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav revived MI with a steady stand, but pressure led to Tilak’s dismissal for 39 off 36 in the 12th over.

Gujarat Titans controlled the game in the second half of the Mumbai Indians’ chase, thanks to Prasidh Krishna’s brilliant spell. The spinners kept the run rate in check but struggled to take wickets, while Sai Kishore conceded several boundaries. However, regular breakthroughs kept MI under pressure, making it difficult for their batters to accelerate. With disciplined bowling and tight fielding, GT successfully restricted Mumbai to 160/6 and secured a convincing win.

The tactics of GT from choosing the pitch to planning has been top notch. Rashid khan hasn’t bowled full quota despite bowling well. Shows how good GT were in the bowling department.

Impressive win by GT. Perfect example of making a plan according to the conditions and following it to the T. The way GT bowlers restricted MI in the middle overs was key. Top 3 making the bulk of the runs, pacers and spinners all doing well. Well played @gujarat_titans 👏🏻 #GTvMI pic.twitter.com/NOPlP3VDuo
