Jasprit Bumrah is set to return to the Mumbai Indians squad ahead of IPL 2025, after recovering from a back injury.
Jasprit Bumrah has officially returned to the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the franchise confirmed with a special social media video on Sunday. The announcement featured Bumrah’s wife, Sanjana Ganesan, and their son, Angad Bumrah, in a heartwarming storytelling format.
In the video shared by MI, Sanjana is seen narrating a story to young Angad, using a jungle metaphor to describe Bumrah’s cricketing journey. “Let me tell you a story. In 2013, there was a cub who entered this jungle, a jungle full of runs. Sixers and boundaries. Where everyone was scared. He showed courage over the years. He fought many battles. He fought for survival. He fought for his pride. He won, he lost, but never gave up. These battles left him with scars. But these scars didn’t stop him. Once a cub, now a lion and the lion is back. He is back to be the king of this jungle, again,” Sanjana concluded.

The 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad was undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru after suffering a back injury during the Sydney Test in January. He missed the entire 2023 IPL season as well as India’s Champions Trophy campaign due to surgery and recovery.
Bumrah has so far played 133 matches in the IPL, claiming 165 wickets, and remains a vital cog in MI’s bowling unit. The five-time champions retained him for INR 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, underlining his value to the squad.
Sources told IANS that Bumrah joined the MI squad on Saturday evening after participating in a practice game at the CoE earlier that day. He received clearance from the medical staff following that outing. “It is a big boost for the side to have someone of Jasprit’s calibre being fully fit and coming back in the MI camp, and understandably everyone is very thrilled. But whether he plays in tomorrow’s game against RCB, no one is still sure about it. Ideally, Bumrah should play, but, playing in tomorrow’s game will be his decision, as well as after having chats with the MI think tank led by head coach Mahela Jayawardene,” the source added.

MI are scheduled to hold their pre-match press conference at 5:30 PM IST on Sunday, before beginning their training session at Wankhede Stadium from 6 to 9 PM IST. Bumrah’s availability for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is expected to be clarified during this media interaction.
Bumrah’s return could not have come at a better time for MI, who are currently placed eighth on the IPL 2025 points table with just two points from four matches. His presence could provide the much-needed spark as the team looks to bounce back and stay in the race for the playoffs.
