Lucknow Super Giants secured a 12-run win over Mumbai Indians in the high-scoring 16th IPL 2025 match. MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl, also confirming Rohit Sharma’s absence due to a training injury.
Mitchell Marsh gave LSG a flying start, smashing a 27-ball half-century during the powerplay. He scored 60 off 31 before falling to Vignesh Puthur. Hardik dismissed Nicholas Pooran and then sent back Rishabh Pant for 2. Aiden Markram anchored the innings with a steady 53 off 38, while Ayush Badoni added 30 before falling in the 16th over.
Hardik struck twice in the final over, removing David Miller for 27 and Akash Deep for a duck, completing a five-wicket haul. LSG finished on 203/8 in 20 overs.
In the second innings, after a strong start with early wickets, LSG lost control briefly as Mumbai rebuilt steadily. Digvesh Singh broke the momentum after the first strategic timeout, triggering a slowdown in the chase. He bowled with discipline, keeping the pressure on the visitors. Suryakumar Yadav kept MI in the hunt. His dismissal in the 18th over left Mumbai needing 29 runs from 12 balls. Tilak Varma, unable to accelerate, eventually retired out. Hardik Pandya carried the chase alone in the final stages. However, Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan delivered tight overs at the death. Despite a spirited chase, MI fell short by 12 runs.

Retiring Tilak for Santer was a mistake in my opinion . Is Santner a better hitter than Tilak ? If it was for Pollard or some other accomplished hitter I would have understood . But Don’t agree with this . Come on @mipaltan
