MS Dhoni walked out for the toss as CSK’s stand-in captain in the ongoing match against PBKS, triggering loud cheers from the home crowd. In classic Dhoni style, he gave a cheeky reply when Danny Morrison asked about next season – saying he’s unsure about the future, stating his focus remains on the immediate game.
“I don’t know I’m coming for the next game (laughs),” Dhoni said, leaving the fans guessing.
The skipper also stressed that winning at home is a matter of pride but admitted CSK have fallen short th. is season. Chennai has retained the same playing XI. Dhoni acknowledged that injuries and external factors have forced multiple changes this year. He added that this is their first season post the mega auction, and they are assessing several things. He then spoke about the need to adjust a struggling batter’s position to help them regain form.

“One of the things is the pride factor. The majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven’t been able to capitalise on. Same team. We’ve been a side where we don’t make a lot of changes. But this season we’ve made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players,” Dhoni said.
“But this season it hasn’t worked for us. It’s also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better,” he added.
Stand-in skipper MS Dhoni took charge from CSK’s fifth game after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury. Under his leadership, CSK have managed just one win and now sit at the bottom of the table. In today’s match, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first.
