Mumbai Indians Outclass SRH by 7-Wickets, Soar to No.3 With Big NRR Gain

Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets, moving up to third place in the points table with a big boost to their net run rate.

Mumbai Indians have surged into IPL 2025 playoff contention with their fourth consecutive win. After starting the season with just one win from five matches, MI have found momentum at the right time. Their latest 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad adds to a growing net run rate, boosted earlier by a big win over Chennai Super Kings.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. SRH collapsed early, losing quick wickets inside the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Ishan Kishan were dismissed in consecutive overs. Kishan’s exit caused confusion as replays showed no edge despite the decision.

Heinrich Klaasen stood out for SRH with 71 off 44 balls. His 99-run stand in 63 balls for the sixth wicket helped SRH post 143/8 in 20 overs. Klaasen reached his half-century in 34 balls. For MI, Trent Boult finished strong, taking two wickets in the final over to return figures of 4/26.

In response, Mumbai Indians chased down 144 with ease, thanks to strong contributions from their top order. Ryan Rickelton fell early, but Rohit Sharma countered with aggressive strokeplay. He added 56 runs with Will Jacks before the powerplay ended. Jacks, promoted to number three, supported well.  The pair’s steady approach helped Mumbai reach halfway with over half the target completed. After Jacks departed, Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit.  Rohit scored his second consecutive fifty, anchoring the innings with maturity.

SRH’s bowling lacked depth, especially with Mohammed Shami unused on the bench. Despite decent spells, SRH couldn’t defend a below-par 143/8, as Mumbai sealed a dominant seven-wicket win in Hyderabad.

Rohit Sharma shaped Mumbai Indians, gave them template to win, now back to back match winning knock from the record breaker.
