IPL 2025 | Mumbai Indians Clinches Nail-Biting Win By 12 Runs As DC Fail To Stabilize In Death Overs

Mumbai Indians

In a nail-biting contest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged victorious against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in Match 29 of IPL 2025. Despite a heroic 89 off 40 balls from Karun Nair, the Capitals fell short while chasing a formidable target of 206, succumbing for 193 in 19 overs.

After being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians posted a strong total of 205/5. The innings was powered by a blistering knock from Tilak Varma, who hammered 59 off 33 balls, striking six fours and three sixes. He was ably supported by Ryan Rickelton (41 off 25) and Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 28), both keeping the tempo high through the middle overs.

The finishing touches were applied by Naman Dhir, whose explosive unbeaten 38 off just 17 balls gave Mumbai the final flourish. Despite a few hiccups, including skipper Hardik Pandya’s early dismissal for 2, Mumbai crossed the 200-mark.

For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming 2/23 in his four overs. Vipraj Nigam also picked up two crucial wickets, including Rohit Sharma and Pandya, but went for 41 runs.

Delhi’s chase started disastrously with Jake Fraser-McGurk falling for a golden duck on the very first ball to Deepak Chahar. However, a counter-attacking partnership between Abishek Porel (33 off 25) and Karun Nair reignited hopes for the Capitals. Nair put on a spectacular show, smashing 89 off 40 balls with 12 fours and five sixes, keeping DC in the hunt until his dismissal in the 12th over.

The middle order, however, failed to capitalise on the platform. KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Tristan Stubbs fell in quick succession, triggering a collapse. Despite late fireworks from Vipraj Nigam (14 off 8) and Ashutosh Sharma (17 off 14), Delhi couldn’t recover and were bowled out for 193 in 19 overs with a hat-trick of runouts.

Mumbai’s bowlers held their nerves in the final overs. Veteran spinner Karn Sharma was the game-changer, taking 3/36, including the crucial wickets of Stubbs and Rahul. Mitchell Santner also chipped in with 2/43, while Bumrah, Chahar, and Sharma ensured the pressure never eased.

Reading the pitch, adapting to it made all the difference. The subtle pace variations from #KuldeepYadav, #KaranSharma and #Santner were spot on and that run out of #AshutoshSharma was a turning point. A game of shifting tides, what a thriller!#DCvsMI #TATAIPL #JioHotstar

Mumbai Indian’s fielding was high class. Brilliant 17th over from Trent Boult. Karn sharma played very crucial role but batting from Tilak Verma & finish from Naman Dhir was the difference.
