Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has successfully cleared his fitness test and will soon link up with Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Reddy had been sidelined for two months due to a side strain sustained during the T20I series against England earlier this year.
As per a PTI report, Reddy underwent a series of fitness evaluations, including the yo-yo test, at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Following a thorough assessment, physiotherapists have given him the green light to return to competitive action.
Nitish Kumar Reddy’s Injury Setback & Return to Cricket
The young cricketer last played for India in the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens on January 22, though he did not get a chance to bat or bowl. He was preparing for the second match in Chennai but was later ruled out due to his injury.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad showed faith in Reddy, retaining him for ₹6 crore after an impressive IPL 2024 season, where he scored 303 runs from 13 matches at a strike rate of 143. His performances during India’s tour of Australia, including a gritty 114-run knock in the fourth Test at Melbourne, further established his potential as a rising star.
IPL Comeback & Future Prospects
Reddy is set to join Sunrisers Hyderabad’s camp soon, with the team gearing up for their IPL 2025 opener against Rajasthan Royals on March 23 at home.

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Reddy played a crucial role in India’s lower order, rescuing the team from difficult situations. He featured in all five Tests and marked a major milestone with his maiden Test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Having made his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh in 2024, Reddy first gained prominence during IPL 2024 under the leadership of Pat Cummins at Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In T20 cricket, Reddy has so far accumulated 485 runs in 18 innings at a strike rate of 135.47 and has also picked up six wickets in 14 matches. With his fitness now restored, the all-rounder will be keen to make an impact in the upcoming IPL season.
