In a dramatic low-scoring affair at Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off an incredible 16-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 31 of IPL 2025. The bowlers ruled the evening as PBKS defended a modest total of 111 to secure a thrilling win and leave the home crowd stunned.
Opting to bat first, PBKS struggled to build partnerships and were bundled out for 111 in 15.3 overs. Prabhsimran Singh played a fiery knock of 30 off 15 balls, laced with 3 sixes and 2 fours, while Priyansh Arya chipped in with a quick 22 off 12. But the rest of the batting lineup faltered against a disciplined KKR bowling unit.
Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers for KKR, returning figures of 3/25, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine shared two wickets each, tightening the screws during the middle overs. Anrich Nortje and Vaibhav Arora also chipped in with a wicket apiece as PBKS collapsed despite a decent start.
Chasing 112, KKR never got going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The early loss of Sunil Narine (5) and Quinton de Kock (2) set the tone for what turned into a disastrous chase. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who came in as an impact player, looked fluent with a brisk 37 off 28, but lacked support from the other end.

PBKS bowlers showed great control and commitment while defending the small total. Yuzvendra Chahal was the star, bagging 4 wickets for 28 runs and breaking the back of KKR’s middle order. Marco Jansen played a key role as well, taking 3/17, including the crucial wicket of Andre Russell. Arshdeep Singh was economical with 1/11 in 3 overs, and Glenn Maxwell also picked up a wicket with his spin.
KKR were eventually bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs, falling short by 16 runs despite having more than 4 overs left in the innings. This marks a big win for Punjab, who turned the match around with a sensational bowling display, reminding fans of the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket.
