Mumbai Indians signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA IPL 2025 due to injury.
In a massive blow for Mumbai Indians, Raghu Sharma has been called in as replacement for Vignesh Puthur. Raghu Sharma, a right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar, Punjab, was picked from the RAPP list at his base price of INR 30 lakhs. This is his first-ever stint in the Indian Premier League.
The 31-year-old has played domestic cricket for Punjab and Puducherry. In 11 first-class matches, he has bagged 57 wickets at an impressive average of 19.59, with best bowling figures of 7/56. In List A games, he has picked up 14 wickets from 9 outings, including a best of 4/37. He also has 3 wickets from 3 T20 matches. Sharma’s inclusion is expected to bolster Mumbai’s spin attack as the team pushes for a strong finish in the IPL 2025 campaign.

Before being ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to injury, Vignesh Puthur delivered a promising performance for Mumbai Indians in his debut season. The young pacer played 5 matches, picking up 6 wickets at an economy rate of 9.08 and a strike rate of 12.00. His most memorable outing came in MI’s season opener against Chennai Super Kings, where he claimed 3/32, setting the tone early in the tournament.
He followed it up with steady contributions, taking 1 wicket each against Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, before bowling a tight spell of 0/15 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Though his campaign was cut short, Puthur’s impactful performances showed glimpses of a bright future in the IPL.
