RCB’s Batting Effort ‘Not Acceptable’, Says Disappointed Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar expressed disappointment after RCB’s six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals, blaming the team’s sudden batting collapse from 61/1 to 90/4 for the defeat.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru suffered their second defeat in five matches after a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals on Thursday. Despite a flying start at 61/1 in under four overs, a sudden collapse saw them slip to 90/4 by the 10th. Phil Salt’s early aggression ended with a run-out, and the dismissals of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, and Liam Livingstone followed quickly.

Skipper Rajat Patidar expressed frustration at the team’s inability to read the pitch and manage the innings. Delhi spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam kept the pressure on, sharing four wickets between them. KL Rahul anchored the chase with an unbeaten 93, guiding Delhi to a win with 13 balls left.

“We have not batted well. Batters are in a good frame of mind; they have shown nice intent. 60 for one and then 90 for four, that is not acceptable,” Patidar said while speaking at the post-match presentation.

“We thought it would be a nice batting track. We were lacking in assessing the conditions and the situation. The way David accelerated at the end, it was amazing. The powerplay, the way the (RCB) fast bowlers bowled, it was really special (reducing DC to 30/3),” Patidar said,” he added.

Tim David’s Late Fireworks in Vain as RCB Fall to DC

In the match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed 163/7 after stumbling to 125/7 in the 18th over, thanks to a late push from Tim David. His quickfire finish gave RCB a fighting total, but it fell short on a Chinnaswamy pitch that rarely defends under 170. Delhi Capitals lost early wickets, slipping to 30/3 in the powerplay. However, KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs turned the chase around with a steady 111-run stand for the fourth wicket. Rahul remained unbeaten on 93 from 53 balls, while Stubbs supported with 38*. Their calm approach and calculated acceleration saw Delhi reach 169/4 with 13 balls left.

RCB’s bowlers impressed early, but couldn’t build on the strong start. A dropped catch of Rahul on 5 proved costly, as he went on to dominate both spin and pace. Delhi secured their fourth straight win and remain unbeaten in IPL 2025. Bengaluru will next face Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, April 13, in Jaipur.
