Stephen Fleming highlighted Ravindra Jadeja’s struggles against spin bowling in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has addressed Ravindra Jadeja’s ongoing struggles with spin bowling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The five-time champions are preparing to face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a must-win encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 25, with both teams stuck at the bottom of the points table.

Jadeja began the season in a lower-order finisher’s role but was promoted in the last two games. He managed only 7 off 11 balls against Lucknow Super Giants but bounced back with an unbeaten 53 off 35 deliveries against Mumbai Indians. However, his promotion has seen him face more spin, an area where he has struggled this season.

Against pace, the left-hander boasts an impressive average of 94 and a strike rate of 164.91, having been dismissed just once. In contrast, spinners have dismissed him four times, reducing his average to 12.75 and strike rate to just 87.93.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Fleming acknowledged the problem and said Jadeja needs to improve against spin bowling. “There’s a lot of room for improvement in our view and it’s a little bit of opportunity. I know in the past that he’s done it for a couple of games, but he hasn’t had a big run at it, and it’s more the attitude towards it. So we’re exploring a lot of things at the moment to see whether there are gains within the side with one view on trying to win every game remaining in the IPL but also in the future,” said the former New Zealand skipper.

Fleming also added that the team is experimenting with players to push them beyond their comfort zones. “So we think there are areas that we can explore with our players where they haven’t perhaps conquered it in the past and just trying to change some attitudes around it,” he added.
