‘Don’t Be In A Hurry’: Dinesh Karthik Applauds Rohit Sharma’s Humorous Retirement Remark

Veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma’s light-hearted yet firm response to speculation about his retirement, stating that the remark sent a strong message to critics. Following India’s Champions Trophy victory, Rohit humorously declared, “I am not retiring,” a statement Karthik believes was both entertaining and assertive.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik commended Rohit for directly addressing ongoing discussions about his future, a topic that has been debated for months. He pointed out that despite a difficult period—including a Test series whitewash in New Zealand and a Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat—Rohit remained composed.

“It pretty much sums up Rohit Sharma as a person. Very humorous about it but at the same time sending the message across: ‘Don’t be in a hurry to ask for my retirement. I’ll do it when I feel like it,’” Karthik remarked.

Rohit Sharma’s Legacy Among India’s Cricketing Greats

Karthik also praised Rohit’s impact on Indian cricket, placing him among the nation’s legendary players. “Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest, no doubt. He’s leaving a serious legacy. Each of them (MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev) marked a generational change and a mindset shift,” he noted.

Additionally, he acknowledged the contributions of Virat Kohli, emphasizing both players’ ability to excel in high-pressure matches. “They just know what it takes to do well in big matches. In the lead-up to a game, there are so many thoughts going on. But the way they channel those thoughts and use that energy on the field is what makes them special,” Karthik said.

Backing Young Talent and IPL 2025 Role

Karthik also spoke highly of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, predicting a promising future for him. “Jaiswal is a bona fide opener. When he gets his turn, he’s going to do phenomenally well,” he stated.

He further praised mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, highlighting his precision as a key factor in his success. “His accuracy is his biggest strength, and that will always help him succeed in white-ball cricket,” Karthik added.

Following his recent retirement from competitive cricket, Karthik is set to take on a new role as mentor for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025, where he will work closely with Virat Kohli in the dressing room.
