Indian senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retained their A+ grade contracts worth INR 7 crore in the BCCI’s annual contract list, despite their retirement from T20Is.

Indian cricket’s senior stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are set to retain their A+ grade contracts in the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) annual player contracts, despite stepping down from T20I cricket. According to a report, their contracts will be valued at approximately INR 7 crore.

Shreyas Iyer, who was notably absent from the central contract list in the previous year, is set to make a comeback after his standout performances in the recent Champions Trophy. Sources confirmed this to IANS.

“Wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who was notably excluded alongside Iyer last year, still has to wait for his return in central contracts,” the source added.

All-rounder Axar Patel, who played a key role in India’s undefeated campaigns in both the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy, may see a promotion in his contract grade.

Varun Chakaravarthy, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma—who have all delivered impressive performances for India across various formats in the past 12 months—are likely to earn their first-ever central contracts.

In related news, last week, the BCCI announced the annual retainers for the India senior women’s team for the 2024/25 cycle. Earlier, IANS reported that a meeting between Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, and Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the BCCI, which was scheduled to take place in Guwahati, was postponed.

The key discussions of the postponed meeting centered on the annual retainers of the men’s team and the composition of the India ‘A’ team, alongside the senior team’s squad for the upcoming tour of England.

Additionally, it was reported that the conclusion of the Indian Premier League would mark the beginning of a five-match series against England, starting on June 20 at Headingley. This series will be India’s first Test series since their 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India’s last Test series win in England was back in 2007.
