The BCCI fined Shreyas Iyer Rs 12 lakh after Punjab Kings maintained a slow over rate during their win over CSK in IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh by the BCCI on Wednesday for maintaining a slow over rate during his team’s IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The Iyer-led side was penalised during the game after on-field umpires Akshay Totre and Anish Sahasrabudhe deemed that the team was behind the required over rate. As a result, Punjab Kings were allowed to place only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the 20th over of Chennai’s innings.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh,” a statement from the IPL said.

Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets to climb to second place in the points table. With 13 points from 10 matches and a net run rate of 0.19, they are in a strong position to make the playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to lead the table with 14 points from 10 games and a net run rate of 0.52. Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans both have 12 points each, but MI sit higher due to a superior NRR of 0.88.
Shreyas Iyer led from the front with the bat, scoring his fourth half-century of the season. He made a quickfire 72 off 41 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. His knock helped Punjab chase down Chennai’s total of 190 with two balls to spare. The visitors finished at 194/6.
“I love chasing on any field. I feel like I thrive whenever there is a big total on the board and you need to take the charge and momentum for the team for the rest of the batters to come and go full throttle,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.

Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh, who also hit a half-century, anchored Punjab’s chase after spinner Yuzvendra Chahal starred with the ball. Chahal picked up four wickets for 32 runs, including a hat-trick, to bowl out Chennai for 190.
Riding on Chahal’s brilliant spell and strong contributions from the top order, Punjab secured a vital win that ended Chennai Super Kings’ chances of making the playoffs.
Punjab Kings will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, May 4, in Dharamsala. If Punjab are found guilty of a slow over rate again this season, Iyer will face a fine of Rs 24 lakh. The rest of the playing XI will also be fined in that case.
